SHATPS - the little society with the big name

SHATPS Publications

1. SHATPS DVDs

Digitisation Project with all SHATPS Publications ever published (books and journals) 1976-2015
We have created a digital archive of all of the journals, monographs, etc. ever published by the society, as scans of the publications in their original printed format. This is a vast treasure-trove of research, anecdote, opinion and history!
We have also created a simple computer program which allows a user to browse through a listing of every article in those journals, and to select any one and have it opened at the correct page in the relevant issue for reading using Adobe Acrobat Reader. Alternatively, a shortlist of articles can be generated using either a keyword appearing in the article's title or a part of the author's name, and one of those articles selected and displayed for reading. Another form lists all the monographs and other publications, and any one of these can be selected and read. The complete package is available as a two-DVD set for users of Windows XP, Vista, Windows 7 and Windows 10, (64-bit and 32-bit computers). For users of Mac’s, the software should work in Windows-emulation mode.

Thirty Years of St. Helena, Ascension and Tristan da Cunha Philately
Edited by Michael D. Mueller and Dr. Peter P. McCann

Celebrating the 30th anniversary of its founding, this anthology offers a collection of new, revised and reprinted articles. There are several pages of color photographs of island scenes, including photographs from the RMS St. Helena Tristan da Cunha Quincentenary Cruise. The book presents over forty articles by authors from the United States, England, Scotland, Canada, Australia, Sweden, the Alan
d Islands and Ascension Island, including well-known names, such as Allan B. Crawford, Edward Hibbert, Trevor Hearl, Alec Page, Russell Skavaril, Rozell Smith an
d Roland Svennsson. Several distinguished philatelists and individuals with important links to the islands—including Robin Taylor, Ron Burn, Dr. Peter P. McCann, Sybil Innes , Dr. William L. Mayo, Richard Peck, Dr. Gale J. Raymond, Robert Richardson and Cynthia Solomon—contributed to the book.

The topics are diverse, encompassing stamp designs, rare military mail from Ascension Island, scarce UPU cards, rarely seen postal markings, social philately, unique covers, Tin Can Mail at St. Helena, the creation of the Tristan da Cunha Potato Stamp, the first Tristan booklets and loads of island history. Members who have given strong support to the society are spotlighted. There is also a history of the society.

Only 200 copies of the book were printed: a very small stock is still available - it will not be reprinted.
